Renée Fleming with Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts to Heal and Connect

World-acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming — curator of the groundbreaking anthology Music and Mind — leads a dynamic discussion with a panel of experts to explore the powerful connections between the arts and health. 

Ms. Fleming will open by highlighting the intersections of music, neuroscience, and healthcare, alongside personal stories and insights from her career. Brief presentations and conversations follow with: 

 

  • Herbert Bruce Newton, MD, a pioneer in neuro-oncology with a passion for music (he plays bass in classic rock bands) and the Medical Director of the Brain Tumor Center at University Hospitals’ Seidman Cancer Center. 

  • Seneca Block, Ph.D, LPMT, MT-BC, a board-certified music therapist and the Lauren Rich Fine Endowed Director for Expressive Therapies with University Hospitals’ Connor Whole Health. 

  • Tammy Shella, PhD, LPAT, ATR-BC is the Director of the Arts and Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Shella is a board-certified art therapist and holds a PhD in psychology with a specialization in health psychology.

  • Violinist Arial Clayton Karas, one of Cleveland Clinic’s longest-serving Musicians-In-Residence in their ground-breaking Performing Arts Program. 

While registration for the main room is currently full, there is still open registration for the overflow room, which is conveniently located next door to the main room and features a large video wall display of the event.
